The Latin American and Caribbean Studies Initiative stands as the academic and research hub of the Elliott School of International Affairs, bringing together its comprehensive expertise in Latin American scholarship. This initiative promotes an interdisciplinary approach to understanding the complexities of Latin America, fostering dialogue on regional, hemispheric, and global challenges. Through this dynamic platform, scholars, students, and policymakers are empowered to engage deeply with the region's multifaceted issues and contribute to shaping informed, impactful solutions.

To facilitate collaboration among departments, faculty, and students, the LACS Initiative:

Organizes seminars, workshops, colloquia and symposia.

Facilitates research grants to support scholarly endeavors.

3.

Publishes student policy briefs and paper series.

4.

Hosts Visiting/Research Scholars to campus to enrich academic discourse.

5.

Collaborates with student organizations such as LATAM and OLAS

Provides a student course guide and academic advising for those interested in the region.

Serves as a hub and point of coordination open to Elliott School alumni across programs, including Latin American and Hemispheric Studies Program (LAHSP), the undergraduate concentration, graduates from other programs, and the wider Washington community.
